Traditionally a fishing port, now a ferry terminal, Fleetwood has a newly refurbished seafront and faces North into Morecombe Bay. The beach is mainly sandy with some shingle and slopes gently to low tide. There are four sewer overflows that discharge into the River Wyre and its estuary at the eastern extent of the beach.
