Hillhead, at the mouth of the River Meon and the head of the Solent is a gradually sloping shingle beach with large areas of muddy sand and shells exposed at low tide interspersed with wide lagoons. To the western end of the beach is the Titchfield Haven Nature Reserve. There are two sewer overflows discharging directly onto the beach here.
